Had a perfectly sunny Saturday in San Francisco, which doesn’t happen often, unless you live on an SF TV show, where it always seems to be warm and beautiful. What a great day to take the ferry from Marin. It was warm enough to enjoy being outside at the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market. Talk about foodie heaven. I love farmer’s markets. Not only are you helping local farmers and supporting organic sustainability. I missed the Ferry Building so much that the first thing I did was head to Blue Bottle Coffee for a New Orleans Iced Coffee and shortbread cookies served in a coffee filter. I didn’t even mind the huge line. I wandered around the farmer’s market and came across the Arlequin booth and doughnuts! Not one to shy away from puffy deep fried balls filled with goodness like bacon and maple custard or Nutella. Oh, joy. There’s nothing like standing there eating a doughnut filled with custard and bacon bits. The beauty of being in Foodie Heaven is that instead of people looking at you get bacon custard all over your face with dismay, they actually stop to ask you where you got it. I also wasn’t going to leave the Ferry Building without stopping at Boccalone for some tasty salty pig parts in the form of the “salumi cone” - a wonderous cone full of coppa and mortadella. After some light shopping on Powell Street, I came back to enjoy a grilled cheese sandwich and mini corn dogs with fries from Gott’s Roadside (formerly Taylor’s Refresher - same owners, different name, long story.) I could live at the Ferry Building. My day started in the city and ended back in the country where most of Sonoma seemed to be at Mondo’s where I enjoyed a pint of Lagunitas IPA ‘cause when in Sonoma … you’ve got to enjoy the best beer in the county. (And that’s saying a lot considering all the awesome beer they make up here.) My uncle was playing in one of his three bands and it seemed like everyone in town was there. I love living in a town where everyone seems to know each other even if I don’t know anyone. All in all, gotta say that today was a nearly perfect day.
